About Steven J. O'Neill

Steven O'Neill PhotoSteven J. O'Neill is a practicing attorney with more than 22 years of arbitration, litigation and counseling experience. In addition to traditional law practice, his firm provides multidisciplinary consulting services to mitigate the risks of eDiscovery and Document Retention Policy noncompliance.

In the course of representing clients in complex litigation involving terabytes of electronically stored information (ESI), Mr. O'Neill developed considerable expertise in the legal and technological aspects of electronic evidence. Outside of the litigation context, he has advised companies and governmental entities on records retention / destruction policies and the implementation of litigation hold programs.

As a member of the eDiscovery Committee at an AmLaw 100 firm, he worked to develop a set of best practices and standard forms for eDiscovery practice.  He later founded and chaired an eDiscovery & Document Retention Policy Compliance practice area at a major New England law firm.

He has written numerous articles, taught Continuing Legal Education seminars and lectured nationally on electronic evidence discovery (eDiscovery), document retention policies, email retention policies, information security and the legal impacts of technology.

In 2006 Mr. O’Neill was appointed to the Emerging Technology Law Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). The TRB is one of six major divisions of the National Research Council - a private, nonprofit institution that is the principal operating agency of the National Academies in providing services to the government, the public and the scientific and engineering communities. The National Research Council is jointly administered by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine. In 2009, and again in 2012, he was reappointed to the TRB for additional three year terms.
